New VBS children!

Today we went to a brand new place...San Isidro.

The church in Macas has a ministry site there, but we met in the community center.  We first needed to invite children, so we split into groups and walked around the village inviting children to VBS.  Raul led the group I was in and he did a good job of modeling for us what we needed to do as we were all a little nervous about trying to use Spanish.  He encouraged us to talk, calling out Buenas Dias to the houses and then inviting any children in the house to VBS.  There didn't seem to be many children in the town, but the we ended up having 88 children!

Crafts were a little crazy as we only had two groups, but everyone worked together and did their job and we got it done!  The children were very nice and worked well.

Some of the children and their creation scenes

After lunch in Macas, we headed to the Shimpis church to have VBS there.

Before we started, Melissa braided my hair!  The JOY ladies have also been learning how to cut and fix hair, so she was very good at braiding!

Mitzi also got her hair braided!

The group at Shimpis was smaller, and since this was our third time doing the craft, it went fairly smoothly.  I was impressed that the older kids, actually some youth, did the craft without acting like they were too old for it, and they did a great job with it!

We had a brief youth service after VBS.  Alexia gave her devotion and Nathan gave his testimony.

Alexia also encouraged the Shimpis youth to give their testimony.  We were told that this is very hard for them to do.  One of the girls, Pastor Clemente's daughter, overcame her fear and gave her testimony!  It was good to hear how her dad's faith led her to Christ.

After the very brief youth service, the boys played a soccer game...Ecuador vs USA.  USA won!

While the boys were playing soccer, some of the girls/women were playing Spot It-Spanish Edition.  USA did not win at this!  Pastor Domingo's wife really liked the game!

Abigail colored me a picture today and I colored her a world map and put our names in our countries.

Nathan got his hair braided during dinner!

After dinner, we had a store run to pick up supplies, craft prep and showers.  LuRae and I also decided to order pizza.  We wanted only cheese, but somehow we got ham and pineapple!  After picking off all the ham and pineapple, the cheese pizza was really good!

I didn't want my braid to get messed up, so Mitzi wrapped a t-shirt around my head for me to wear while I slept!  It felt weird, but I was able to sleep most of the night with it on my head.  And the next day, my braid was still up!
