Don't call me Shirley!

My name is Amy Shirley, but I often introduce myself only as Amy. It seems if I only tell people my name is Amy then they will not get confused and call me Shirley by mistake! When people do get mixed up, I want to say "Do I look old enough to be named Shirley?" I have an Aunt Shirley who is older than my parents and I don't know of any peers who are named Shirley! The other thing is every time I am asked my last name, I say Shirley and then the person usually says, "no, I need your last name." Like I don't know my last name! And when people look at my driver's license and see "Shirley, Amy Powell", they look really confused and don't know what to call me; "Shirley" or "Mrs. Powell." All of this because I am such a submissive wife that I took my husband's last name! But the worst was shortly after we got married. Dave and I had a mutual friend in college who knew me before I was even dating Dave and later was in our wedding. Not too long after we were married (after calling me Amy for 2+ years), he called me "Shirley!"

So that is the story of my last name! If I meet you in person and introduce myself as Amy, please don't call me Shirley :)

My Two Sons

This is my baby! He has such a round face now and although he is ALWAYS smiling, he stops when I get the camera out! He is constantly running! He makes me tired just watching him! Of my 2 boys, he will be the runner!

This is my older baby, but don't let him read that! He is growing up too fast! He has such a sweet, tender heart, but still focuses most of his talking on toots and burps! Such a boy!

The magic of Monday!

It has truly been a long week! It is nice to come home after church on Sunday night, put the kids to bed, get takeout, and veg until time for bed! Even with piles of laundry to fold, dishes to wash, and trash to take out, it feels like it can all get done tomorrow because not only is it another day, it is also the beginnning of a new week! Of course all things can get finished on Monday! That's what Monday's are for-to clean up the mess of the weekend!

Of course there is usually something to prevent these things from being accomplished, but it is the hope of a new week that springs eternal!

Smiles

I am determined to use this as a diary and a place to practice my writing skills, so here I am again!

Today is another Saturday in the life of a baseball family! Practice at 11. This time sort of stinks because it is not early enough to have the rest of the day available. By the time it is over, it is naptime and maybe I had better do something about this kitchen time and you know supper will be here before you know it! I am learning that I can't cram everything into the time of day after the kids go to bed! Esp since Nathan is getting older and wants to stay up later when it is the weekend; and he asks to play a game together! How can you send your child to be right at 8 when he wants to spend quality time with you!

And I have to brag on my boy! He was upset knowing that Karen Stamps died this week. He had only met her 2 yrs ago and for just 2 days, but he remembered her and the rest of the family. I had told Nathan to go write a card for a present since he was going to a b-day party today. He ran off to do this while muttering that he had to write 2 cards. He then came back and showed me the first. He had found some stationary in my table and had written a note to Karen's husband, Eric. It went something like this:

Dear Mr. Stamps, I am really sorry for your loss. I guess this is just a part of life. and thanks again for the duck. Love, Nathan

Fortunately his note was able to make us laugh since it has been a sombering weekend. About the duck, when we went to DC to visit them 2 yrs ago, Eric took us out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant that served duck! He still remembers that!

Watching your children grow up is an exciting thing, even if you wish they could stay 2! I am so thankful for my oldest boy with the sensitive heart. I am now getting to watch and wonder what kind of boy Camden will grow up to become! His newest thing he says that touches my heart is "my mommy". It makes me smile!

Smiling right now, Amy

I am starting a new challenge in my life! Trying to find the perfect font to begin my blog! I want to know who uses webdings! Maybe if I want to send a secret, it would be like code!

I love my husband very much!

Not really a secret, but now I can't remember what my first font was!

So is this what blogging is when you have a boring life!

Right now though, I am thankful for my boring life. I just found out that a friend died from breast cancer. Her name was Karen and she was married to Dave's good friend from college. She was such a gracious and real lady! She lived her convictions. There is also a little boy in my son's school who is battling cancer-had a brain tumor removed. I cannot imagine what his family is going through right now. Only God can give them the strength to get through these situations.

Now another font has appeared! This may be an interesting experience after all! I am going to post this and hope that I find it again, but I have no idea when I may let people know that I have a blogsite. So for all you blog stalkers, you just have to wait (unless you have some way to find me that I don't know about!)
