Cabinet update

When I was young, one of my favorite books was "Bread and Jam for Frances."  It was about a girl who only wanted to eat bread and jam, so that is what her parents gave her.  All three meals, bread and jam.  I had the audio tape of the story in which Frances made up a rhyme while jump roping.  It went, "I am very tired of jam!"  Right now my rhyme would be "I am very tired of eating out!"

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  A very bumpy tunnel.  We received that cabinets about a week ago, but they were the wrong ones!  After visions of having to wait four more weeks for cabinets, and lots of calling back and forth, it was decided that the cabinets themselves were fine, just the doors were wrong.  So the cabinets went in and the work was on!  Counter tops were measured, and painting was started.  Then a hole was found in the wall along with a leaky copper pipe.  It was a great thing that it was found, or we may have had the same situation with our kitchen next summer!

So today, July 28, we have a kitchen full of cabinets with wrong cabinet doors; painted walls; fixed pipes; and the tile man is starting as I type!!  Yay!!

Pictures by Camden

Camden and I took a kayak ride today at Shem Creek.  I let him sit up front without a paddle because it seemed easier on me to not have to deal with an extra paddle when he got tired, and he wanted to take pictures.  He took several, but then after taking a break, the camera battery died (this is my old, old camera which had charged all night).  So the most exciting close-ups of the dolphins were only captured in our memory :)  But we got some good memories of dolphins surfacing right beside us while we were near a trawler.  Camden was super excited to see their blowholes and their noses, and their eyes!  It was a lot of fun.

So here are Camden's photos of the day.  Enjoy!

TBT

TBT to Nathan's first room.

Nathan's nursery looks very familiar!  Like the way his room is now being repainted.  But it seems strange that we are in the middle of painting his room with all the other projects we have going on.

I guess our year of house projects began at Thanksgiving 2013 when we redid Camden's room.  Since we gave Camden Nathan's bunk bed, we needed to get Nathan a bed.  But of course his room needed to be repainted first.  Then Dave started remodeling our FROG.  And then our kitchen...well, that is the biggest remodeling job yet.  Which hopefully will be finished soon.

In the meantime, Dave has finished the ceiling in the FROG except for the trim, and we have found the bed for Nathan.  It is our neighbors', and since they want to sell it, we need to get Nathan's room ready to receive the bed.  So my job has been to get enough of the room painted so that we can get the bed in. Nathan wanted yellow and purple walls due to his love for LSU.  Well, that was not happening!  But we did agree to yellow and white with a purple stripe.  And maybe we have moved from stripes to just purple shelves and accessories.

So here is the corner that is finished.

What is interesting to me is that if you added some beach theme stencils, his room would look like his nursery :)

Shoe shopping

On Wednesday we started our day downtown eating donuts at Glaze.  We have tried to get there before, but they were always sold out before we arrived.  We made it this time :)

After spending the morning downtown, we went shoe shopping.  Well, Jennifer was supposed to be shoe shopping for shoes for a wedding she is in soon.  The problem is, her feet are very hard to fit.  Mine on the other hand are a very normal size 7.5.  So while she came out empty handed, I came home with two new pairs of shoes!

The Grammie campers, on the other hand, had fun at Carowinds, jumping at Hi-wire, tubing in the Saluda River, and staying up late watching movies!  A fun week for all!

SUP'ing and more!

While the boys were enjoying Grammie Camp, Jenn and I went paddle boarding on Tuesday.  It was a lot of fun, but no pictures.  They offered to give us a dry bag to put our phone in, but I still didn't trust myself to not lose it in the harbor.  And I did fall off this time!  We were able to see and almost paddle with dolphins, however, we didn't see any manatees.  We paddled from Shem Creek out into the harbor.  It was a calm day, however, several boats and trawlers caused waves from their wake.  So it was fun balancing on our boards.  We did take several breaks and used our boards as kayaks.

After eating lunch at Shem Creek, we headed home to relax.  But of course we had to go out to get dinner; so we decided on Taco Spot.  The best fish tacos ever!!

So a fun day in the beautiful outdoors!
